  • What texture finish replaces the removed popcorn texture?

The only texture we use to replace removed popcorn texture is knockdown.  We do not work on flat ceilings.  It is incredibly difficult to try and leave a ceiling perfectly flat without imperfections.

Please see our short video POPCORN REMOVAL.

  • Do you need to apply primer to bare drywall ceilings?

Once the popcorn ceiling is removed, you are left with bare drywalls.  You will see old tape seams, old repairs, old stains, etc.

In order to seal those unsighlty marks, it is best to apply primer at that time (rathr than wait until after the new texture is applied).

Besides sealing up old marks, the primer serves a glue to bond the new knockdown to the ceiling.

  • What is the big deal with houses built prior to 1980?

If your home was built before the mid-1980s, there is a chance that the popcorn ceiling contains asbestos. However, it's important to note that not all popcorn ceilings contain asbestos. The only way to know for sure whether your popcorn ceiling contains asbestos is to have it tested which can be done with DIY kits.

If your popcorn ceiling does contain asbestos, it's important to take precautions when dealing with it. Asbestos fibers can be harmful if they are inhaled, and the removal process should only be done by trained professionals who can safely contain and dispose of the material.
